Change can be difficult to explain—particularly when discussing a materials change in packaging manufacturing. From the planning phase to the final launch, the production of packaging products is extremely complex. As a result, the timespan to make changes to materials to be more environmentally safe can take up to a decade. Our client turned to our team for a plan to convey this complexity to busy policymakers and staff.

The Solution

First, we researched the manufacturing process. Next, we listened to professional experts explain how each supply chain stakeholder and regulator must conduct its own tests of the new material for safety and efficacy. That’s when we decided on a visual timeline with key steps explained to show policymakers how components of their proposed legislation could play out in real life. We reenvisioned the usual “one pager” as a simple snaking timeline infographic for advocates to use during in-person meetings and member companies to use in their own toolkits.
